Project Nim!

While watching project Nim we kept notes on what are the things that are similarities, differences, new information, disturbing and happy to our book we read on Half Brotther. Nim bit kids just like Zan, Nim got stronger.  They put Nim in a cage and walked away.

There was a couple of differences that I found while I was watching Project Nim and the book Half Brother. It’s that they let Nim take a couple of puffs of marijuana.  Nim also was given beer time to time to drink. Nim went to a test facility and Nim moved around to different trainers.

New Information I found out of the video was the people sold all the chimps even Nim. They didn’t try to get Nim back from the test facility and they took Nim to the courtroom. They let Nim drink some beer.

Disturbing parts I found was that they sold the chimps to the test facility. Doctors tied animals up and gave them needles. They took 6 children off Nims mom already. Tied Nim to the cage and walked away without looking back and stab Nim with a cow prod. Stephanie liked Nim’s sexual interaction.

The happy parts in the video was that Nim got to leave the Stephanie house. Nim made some friends at the facility and they were Bob and and Lily. He went to a test facility and then he got to leave the test facility because someone said they would pay the test facility and his name was Dr. Mahoney. Nim got to see friend Bob who helped Nim when he was at Dr. Lemon’s facility.

What is your impression on chimps?

Half Brother Against Animal Abuse!

The book Snow Lake, Manitoba and our class Turnberry, ON are reading is called Half Brother, written by Kenneth Oppel. Right now in the story, Peter is one of the students that takes care of Zan (the chimp). Peter doesn’t like that Zan is strapped into a chair. The reason Zan is in the chair is because he needs to learn so they thought it would be good for Zan to. The question I chose to talk about is how Peter describes Zan’s situation being taking from the wild and brought up as a human as a “kind of slavery”. What does he mean by this? Do you agree or disagree? Explain. My opinion is I agree with Peter that it is a kind of slaver. I think Peter means that Zan has been taken away from his family just to be researched on to see if he can communicate with humans. Zan was taken from his Mom because he was in a testing facility but then went to Ben’s house to learn sign language. Zan is a slave because he isn’t able to do what he wants. He can’t go swing on trees or do what a normal chimpanzee does. I agree with Peter that it is a kind of slavery because Zan can’t do what the everyday world of a wild animal does. How do you think humans will start treating chimpanzee’s if they did learn sign language?

Half-Brother Connection

Right now we are  reading a book called Half-brother by Kenneth Opel. We skyped with a class in Snow Lake Manitoba  and are taking turns reading it on the skype calls.
In the story, Half-Brother, Ben made some bad decisions at a construction site by jumping through fire. This reminds me of when I was 7 or 8 years old and me and my sister’s friends threw snowballs at cars. When my mom heard that she was not happy. We also made a bad decision.

Polar Bear Thrill

 Polar Bear Post

The major problem I am studying is that global warming is effecting the polar bears. That means polar bears will have to look some where else to find food. And that will effect the food chain because arctic foxes and other wildlife feed off Polar bears left over dinner. The humans would be effected because Polar bears will be looking for easy food in town and they will prey on dogs, cats and even people. As a result polar bears can become extinct.

Our class watched Mr. McKiel’s video about how he and other people got chosen to go to Churchill Manitoba to watch how the polar bears are being effected by global warming. However a week later Mrs. Durnin found out that you can adopt a polar bear for $250,100,50,30 and our class chose to do the $250 adoption and within two in a half weeks later we made 293$ for a polar bear and if we want we can adopt a $30 polar bear.

I think it was a good experience for our class because now we know we can do anything if we put our minds to it. Therefore it was a good experience for me because I learned a lot of stuff about polar bears that I didn’t know before. I also learned that polar bears are on the endangered species list. I learned that there are lots of different species of animals in Churchill Manitoba that are not around here.

TEN MARKS AND A TRAIN TICKET
Benno’s Escape to FreedomTen marks and a train ticket is based on Hitler’s attack on the Jews and it is written by Susy Goldstein, Gina Hamilton and Wendy Share.Time ToastThe image that stands out to me is when Benno’s car has a swistika a it. It stand out to me because it is really rude to put a swistika on Benno’s car when the war has been over for 30 years.

Quotation:
We had made it!…We couldn’t understand what people were saying because; the language sounded very stang, because in Holland they speak dutch.
I think this quotation is important because Benno and Heinz can get away from all the bad things in Germany and start a new life in Holland. But if they are going to stay in Holland they might wont to learn Dutch first.
As I was reading the book I wondered if  Benno and Heinz would still be safe from the Nazis when they take over Holland?

What We Have In Common….

A couple of days ago we skyped with Snow Lake. I’m a grade ⅞ student that communicates with a class 2700km away.

Something I have in common with everyone on the spreadsheet is that we all brush our teeth 1-2 times a day. We take good care of our teeth. We make sure our teeth look good. Something I have mostly in common with students is hockey. Their names are Isaaerri, TanneMcar  and TylePham. A few things I have in common with the students are we like to watch the sports channel. My nickname is Bobby. It is unique because no one else has my nickname except Bobby Orr. One thing me and Alexander have in common is we both are not afraid of insects and other bugs.

Did you eat anything unique food this summer?

SUMMER OF 2011!!!!

One thing I learned this summer at Marine Land is that beluga wales eat five buckets of fish. And that one walrus weight about 1000 pounds. Wouldn’t want to mess with that thing. That the skyscreamer is alot scarier in person than when you see on t.v.What I didn’t do this summer is go to Wonderland when my sister Keri asked me if I would like to.Why I said no is that I don’t like roller coasters. Plus the Behemoth is little to extreme for me. So she took someone else.

The word I would describe my summer is exciting because when I went to Marineland, and Collingwood  for a long time. That is why my summer was exciting.

What was your favorite part of your summer?
